WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD!
Joker borrows some of the main elements from previous versions of the character, such as him starting out as a stand-up comedian and generally being a social outcast. But the film does away with the vat of acid and instead aims for a more grounded, gradual transformation from a damaged man to the Clown Prince of Crime. For those who might worry that revealing the Joker"s origins might undermine the character, ridding him of his mysterious nature, rest assured that this film does the Joker justice and then some.
The film focuses almost exclusively on Arthur Fleck. He"s in nearly every frame of the movie. Arthur suffers from a number of mental illnesses (they are never specified, but it is mentioned that he takes 7 different medications. Living with his mother, and working a low-income job as a clown-for-hire, Arthur feels lonely, neglected, and unseen. He gets hit with one turn of bad luck after another, from losing his job to having funding cut for his therapy and medication. Things begin to take a turn when he is attacked on a subway by three Wayne Enterprise employees. Using a gun given to him by a co-worker, he guns down the three men in self-defense (albeit a bit excessively. Things quickly spiral out of control, and Arthur soon becomes the anonymous symbol of an anarchic revolution in Gotham.
It can"t be stressed enough how incredible Joaquin Phoenix"s performance is as Arthur Fleck. He transforms himself both physically and mentally, disappearing into the character. Arthur is an unsettling, strange, and broken man, and Phoenix embodies the character perfectly, elevating the material.
The film offers plenty of other cinematic delights as well, from its gorgeous, moody photography to its haunting score. One highlight is the "bathroom dance" with a chorus of strings hitting mostly on a small handful of notes, creating a tense yet oddly beautiful melody.
The film has a relentless, bleak tone, but the uniqueness of Arthur"s character carries you through the story and keeps you locked in your seat. You can"t help but be fascinated with this character, wondering where the story will go next. While the movie does use some familiar tropes (guy down on his luck, losing his job, getting attacked in the street) they"re well executed and don"t feel derivative. A subplot concerning Arthur"s mother and the Wayne family also adds some unexpected complexity and weight to Arthur"s character development.
Joker is a haunting yet beautiful character study, crafted with ingenuity and an admirable attention to detail. Paying homage to inspirations such as "Taxi Driver" and "The Killing Joke" graphic novel, Joker still manages to stand on its own. It"s a masterpiece, and easily one of the best films of the year. It"s not only the best DC film, but it"s also a fantastic, character driven crime drama all its own.

Oscar nominated (writing and directing) for her standout LADY BIRD (2017) Ms. Gerwig remains true to the beloved source material while adding her own contemporary touch. She begins with the adult March sisters and then flashing back 7 years to the stage of living together and battling through the difficult and awkward transitional phase. The four sisters Jo (Saoirse Ronan) Meg (Emma Watson) Amy (Florence Pugh) and Beth (Eliza Scanlen) are exceptionally well cast, and we immediately recognize the familiar personality traits of each. Jo is the serious, determined writer who has an understanding of financial necessities. Meg is the warm facilitator beloved by all. Amy has ambitions (or is it dreams? of being a great artist and living an exceptional life. Beth, the youngest, radiates a sweet nature and love for the piano.
Much of the story is told through the eyes of Jo. Her independent spirit and frustration with how the world is, boils over at times. She states her disappointment at being born a girl, and is described as having "a nature too noble to curb." While viewing, one must keep in mind that this was the Civil War era (the girls" father is a military Chaplain) and women had achieved very few rights in society. The contrast is never more evident than when comparing Marmee (Laura Dern) presented here as a near flesh-and-blood saint, with Aunt March (Meryl Streep) one quite at ease in thumbing her nose at societal norms for one reason. she is rich.
Fans of the novel will be pleased that Timothee Chalamet plays "Laurie Laurence" who struggles every bit as much as the sisters in finding his way towards adulthood. His scenes with Jo are exceptional. Chris Cooper, not seen nearly enough in movies these days, perfectly captures the broken spirit of Mr. Laurence, a man never quite able to escape his own personal loss. Other key cast members include James Norton as tutor/teacher John Brooke, Louis Garrel as Friedrich (here a Frenchman) and Tracy Letts dropping some deadpan comedy as Jo"s publisher Mr Dashwood.
Ms. Gerwig (perhaps with a future as one of the greatest filmmakers) displays storytelling and cinematic craftsmanship at the highest level. She bounces between timelines (over at least 7 years) and different sisters" stories, showing how each is so different. yet all interconnected. These spirited sisters, raised in the same modest home, have their own independent thoughts and ideas of how they want to live their lives. This delivers multiple comings-of-age and examines "a woman"s place" whatever that means. In fact, the message is that a woman"s place is whatever she decides, and while her options are many (despite obstacles) her decisions are personal. None of the four sisters are played by American actors, and all four perform admirably. Pay particular attention to Florence Pugh (MIDSOMMAR) and her work as Amy. Also impressive is the Production Design by Jess Gonchor and the score by 2-time Oscar winner Alexandre Desplat. This one is all about the storytelling and characters, so take in the bunch known as the March sisters. As a side note, Greta Gerwig"s next movie is a live-action BARBIE movie, with Margot Robbie in the lead.

Fast and furious 27, i"m amazed you still counting

I love how he instantly smiles at Kelly"s question. Only Rosie O"Donnell That"s funny! And that"s why we love him. After seeing the entire film, I am in agreement that there was sexual harassment from Roger Ailes. This has gone on in other networks as well. Excellent performances. Fox News has departed somewhat from the overly coiffed, glammed blond female commentators. This is a good thing, but they need to do more in that area. Most of the reporting from Fox News is valid from a conservative standpoint, something sorely missing from all the other mainstream media.

This interview changed my view of Meghan Kelly. I really listened carefully to her. I get it now. She is a strong, intelligent woman. I wish her the Best. After seeing "The Loudest Voice, I thought I had seen enough of the subject. Also, I was not impressed with the cheesy trailers which flaunted some of the funniest lines. Still, I was cajoled into seeing this by friends who did not see "The Loudest Voice." I thoroughly enjoyed the smart, funny writing by Charles Randolph and the direction and acting. Charlize Theron was amazing. Ladies and friends of ladies, go see it! I want to watch it again.

Kelly was singing his praises in previous interviews, Kelly is an opportunistic ho. Kidman looks and sounds so annoying in this. There had also better be films coming out on Bill Clinton, Matt Lauer, Charlie Rose and Harvey Weinstein. They shouldn"t be riding off into the sunset. I WANT THAT BOOK. I really respect that Megyns husband is there and he is genuinely letting every woman speak openly and there for nothing but support. We may not all agree on political matters but no one deserves to feel or be treated the way these women have been.

Great performances by Charlize, Nicole, and Margot. Loved every minute of it. This was a fair and balanced depiction of the FOX news story. It"s hard to make Blonde women in short skirts who were paid millions in settlements to be sympathetic or relatable characters, yet this movie achieves it. Roger was given context with explanations for his perversion and not painted as a baselessly vile character. I thought the movie was very well done, I was surprised at how good it was and I hope more people see it. The overall user rating is dramatically lower than more objective professional critics" ratings due to laughingly-low ratings written by the type of person who actually believes the tripe put forth by the sickeningly corporate-driven alt-right media and lobbyist-bought actor-pols like Trump, McConnell and Graham. Superb acting by Theron, Robbie and Lithgow, excellent portrayal of the inner struggle of victims and enablers leave the viewer with a sense of win/lose. The win is that one strong person can empower other victims to speak out, but the sad loss is that creeps like Ailes and O"Reilly get awarded with 40 million settlements and liars like Hannity and Carlson still pollute airwaves and the minds of easily-influenced non-analytical sheeplike viewers.

I like to see a hips just like BOMBSHELL.
